(Adopted July 2012 - June 2016)
This small angry creature may seem more wary of humans than other Chinchilla Persian cats, but we love him nonetheless. His name stems from the word "small" or "smaller" in Cantonese, but is pronounced "Sa-i-ko" in the same Japanese fashion as one would pronounce "Ne-ko". It was only later when I realized it sounds dangerously close to the word "psycho".
For a cat of this stature, one cannot be careful enough, for every giant limb that approaches may bring a world of hurt. Despite his caution, Saiko was no stranger to being stepped on, after which it could take an entire week for him to warm up to you again.
A small body, but big appetite. I do not know a cat more insistent than Saiko to get a taste of your meal.
The smaller you are, the bigger the world. For Saiko, not only was his world bigger, but he was also allowed to explore to his own desires, going as far as to bring back mice from his adventures. This however came with its own risks, risks we were warned of, but in this household, Saiko was a free cat to his last breath.
In the end, Saiko didn't come back. For when you venture into a bigger world, the bigger its inhabitants will be.
To no surprise, Saiko is absolutely terrified of any unknown humans, hiding upstairs at any sign of danger. This didn't stop him from mewing your ears off so he could go outside into way more dangerous territory. Saiko knew however, someone would always be waiting for him at home.
The relationship between Neko and Saiko is to put it in one word: special. These cats were inseparable. They would take care of each other, sleep together, play with each other; it was a warm sight to behold which only made it even more heart-breaking to lose Saiko.
Sightings have been reported of Saiko with a different cat outside, which suggests he even made a friend or had his own social circle.
Below are Saiko's estimated abilities:
